The Em Dash. Why So Divisive?
The em dash has been through a lot lately.
For years, it was a perfectly respectable piece of punctuation. Professional writers used it. Copywriters used it. Ad agencies used it. Marketing companies used it.
It did its job. It created a pause, added emphasis, broke up a thought.
Nobody was investigating it.
Then AI came along.
And suddenly the em dash became suspicious.
